STEPHEN MINISTRY

The Stephen Ministry at Shepherd of the Hills is an active Christian program that provides one-to-one care to those experiencing life difficulties and crises. Lay ministers are trained to learn skills and develop gifts for bringing Christ's healing love to people who are lonely, grieving, strangers, new parents, or experiencing other stresses in life. Stephen Ministers work in consultation with the pastor and receive on-going education in a helping ministry. The Stephen Ministers also offer a grief support program held at the church for anyone suffering the loss of a loved one.  Anyone interested in being a part of this program or could benefit from this ministry, should contact the church office.

"Love one another - as I have loved you."

                           John 13:34

 A STEPHEN MINISTER IS ...

* A child of God who walks beside a person who is hurting.

* A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in providing emotional and spiritual care.

* A caring, Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports, and encourages.

* Someone who will "be there" for his or her care receiver, meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there is a need.

"Bear one another's burdens, and in a

way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

                                                           Galatians 6:2

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry:

The identity of those receiving care and

what takes place in each caring relationship

                                         remains private.
