Watch at the Cross
9:00pm Maundy Thursday - 9:00am Good Friday
Watch at the Cross is a Lenten tradition that seeks to honor the events of Maundy Thursday, when Jesus took Peter, James and John to an olive grove called Gethsemane and asked them to stay alert while he prayed.
"...he began to be filled with anguish and deep distress.
He told them, "My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death.
Stay here and watch with me." (Matthew 26:37-38 NLT)
The disciples (his dearest friends), fell asleep three times before Judas arrived with a mob of Roman guards, betrayed Jesus with a kiss and helped set the events of eternity into motion.
Shepherd of the Hills Watch at the Cross will be a 12 hour vigil, starting at 9:00pm Maundy Thursday (April 14th) night - through 9:00am Good Friday (April 15th) morning.
It will take place in the sanctuary, where you will find a variety of Biblical resources to help enrich your experience. "Walking the Way of the Cross" readings will also be available in the Narthex. And of course, please feel free to bring your own Bible, devotional or prayer journal!
The vigil will be broken into one hour increments and we are looking for "Watchers" to sign up and fill each hour. "Watchers" can be individuals, couples or families, but we ask that there are no more than two groups in vigil during any given hour.
Our Youth and Family Director, Heather Castaing, will be at the church throughout the vigil, to let people in the building and answer any questions.
We hope you will prayerfully consider being part of this year's Watch at the Cross vigil and we pray that this experience is a blessing to you in your faith journey.
